If you receive any email messages that goes automatically into your BU Email's Junk E-Mail folder, and the message is actually legitimate, this is the guide you need to follow.
Simply moving the message from the Junk folder is not enough, and you will need to 'whitelist' similar messages from also being flagged as Junk E-Mail. One of two methods will apply in this case.
BU Students - From Outlook through Web Browser (MS Office365)
If you typically access your BU email from the "Webmail" site (and not the "Exchange" site), here are the steps:
- Go to the "Junk Email folder
- Right click on the email in question
- Choose "Security Options"->"Mark as Not Junk"
Staff and Students - From Outlook Desktop application
If you access your BU email using the Outlook desktop app, here are the needed steps.
- Click on the the folder labelled as "Junk E-Mail"
- Right click on the email in question, select "Not Junk",
- A message box will show "This message will be moved back into the Inbox Folder" and a checkmark will show beside "Always trust e-mail from "emailaddress@something.ca". Leave the checkmark in place and click OK, and the message will move back to your Inbox folder.
Emails moved out from the Junk folder are typically sorted by the date and time it had first arrived in your account. This means if the message was a few days old, you may have to scroll in your Inbox to find it.
If you repeatedly have messages from the same mailing list or email domain, placed in Junk, you can also try these steps
- Right click the message again, click "Junk", click "Never Block Sender's Domain"
- Right click the message again, click "Junk", click "Never Block this Group or Mailing List"
If, for any reason, you are not seeing any specific messages show up in your BU mailbox, your email may not have been delivered and might be pending by the BU first-level "Quarantine" system. This is the first place any messages would be withheld, and is separate from your "Junk Mail" folder.
