- The students login to Teams, click the Teams icon from the left-hand side bar
, select the ‘Join or create team’ button in the upper right-hand corner of the screen
, and select “Join team”
- Students enter the ‘Join Code’ in the field labelled ‘Enter join code.” and click ‘Add team’
- With the ‘Join Code’ added, the students will be presented with a window displaying the name of the course associated with the ‘Join Code’ entered. The student confirms the correct class comes up, then they click “Join”
Sample image: - After clicking ‘Join’, the window displays “Request sent”. The student now waits for the Team owner to approve the request
Sample image: - Team owners will receive an email and can accept the requests three ways:
The image below is a sample of the email a Team owner will receive. The sender shows as “Microsoft Teams”. The subject line reads “A request has been made to join a private team that you own”
Three Methods of accepting join approvals:
- Open the email and click the “Accept or Deny request” button – the request displays who is asking to join the Team.

Clicking the button will prompt Teams to open or ask you to open Teams. Teams will open to the ‘Pending requests’ tab of the appropriate Team. Review the users and choose to “Accept all” current requests, or “Accept” each individual request.
Sample image: - Open Teams, check the ‘Activity’ icon on the upper left-hand side of the screen. If there has been recent activity, you will see a red dot on the icon. Click ‘Activity’ to view recent posts and notifications in Teams. Look to see if one of the activities is for your class Team. Select the new post. A request post will list the user followed by the message “User requested to join TeamName”. “Accept” or “Deny” one user at a time, or if there are several requests waiting for approval, select “Accept all” or “Deny all”.
