AV Equipment Directions – CH 001

Computer Start up

1. Power on the Computer if it is not already on
2. Power on the Projector with the Remote Control
3. The Computer should automatically be detected by the Projector
4. If the Computer is not detected, press the HDMI button on the Projector Remote, select the input as HDMI 1
5. If selecting HDMI 1 on the projector does not work, then press #2 on the Crestron box located on the bottom of the cabinet:
   

Laptop Start up

1. Power on the Laptop if it is not already on
2. Connect the Laptop to the external laptop video connection cable
3. Power on the Projector with the Remote Control
4. The Laptop should automatically be detected by the Projector 
5. If the Laptop is not detected, press the HDMI button on the Projector Remote, select the input as HDMI 1
6. The projector recognizes the last plugged-in device.  If the desktop Computer is turned on after connecting the Laptop to the projector, you will need to manually switch between devices:

HDMI connected Laptop

If selecting HDMI 1 on the projector does not work: press #3 on the Crestron box located on the bottom of the cabinet:

VGA connected Laptop

If selecting HDMI 1 on the projector does not work: press #4 on the Crestron box located on the bottom of the cabinet: 

Shutdown

1. Logoff from the Computer/Laptop
2. Power off the VHS player if it was used
3. Power off the Projector with the Remote Control
    

Playing a DVD – from the computer

1. Use the DVD player from the Computer NOT from the VHS/DVD player combo unit
2. Login to the Computer
3. Open the DVD drive on the Computer and place your disk in the drive
4. On the Computer desktop screen, open the program VLC Media Player
   
5. Select Media - Open Disk
    
6. The Disc device field should automatically detect the DVD drive, click Play towards the bottom-right of the window to start the video
   

Playing a VHS video - uses software on the Computer along with the VHS player

1. Login to the desktop Computer
2. Power on the VHS player
3. Place your tape in the VHS player

Option 1

1. On the Computer desktop screen, open the program VHS Player.bat
    
2. This launches VLC media player with the audio and video settings already set.  Press play to start the video (if the play button on the screen does not work, try pressing the play button on the VCR)
3. If you do not see audio and/or hear sound:  
   1. Close VLC player
   2. Temporarily unplug the StarTech adapter from the front of the computer, wait 15 seconds and plug it back in.  Make sure to plug it back into a black USB port and not a blue USB port (adapter needs to run on USB 2.0). Image of adapter connection below
      
   3. Open the VHS Player.bat program again to see if the issue was resolved

Option 2

1. On the Computer Desktop screen, open the program VLC Media Player
   
2. Select Media – Open Capture Device
   

1. Under the Capture Device tab check/select the following settings:

Capture mode = DirectShow

Video device name = USB 2861 Device

Audio device name = Line (USB 2861 Device)

1. Press Play to start the video (if the play button on the screen does not work, try pressing the play button on the VCR)
2. If you do not see audio and/or hear sound:  
   1. Close VLC player
   2. Temporarily unplug the StarTech adapter from the front of the computer, wait 15 seconds and plug it back in.  Make sure to plug it back into a black USB port and not a blue USB port (adapter needs to run on USB 2.0). Image of adapter connection below
      
   3. Open the VLC Player program again to see if the issue was resolved

Tech notes:  

1. The VHS Adapter driver is on the StarTech website – Admin rights required for installing the adapter driver (https://www.startech.com/en-ca/audio-video-products/svid2usb232)
2. The StarTech adapter works best on a USB 2.0 port
3. Batch file Command for VHS shortcut connections: "C:\Program Files\Videolan\VLC\vlc.exe" dshow:// :dshow-vdev="USB 2861 Device" :dshow-adev="Line (USB 2861 Device)"
